How to Choose a Fiberglass Reinforcement Format
Chopped strand mat distributes fibers randomly and is often selected for conformability, resin wet-out and general hand lay-up or molding. Woven roving aligns reinforcement in two directions and offers efficient handling and strong laminate performance.
Stitched and multiaxial materials place fibers at controlled 0°, 90° and ±45° orientations. This allows laminate performance to be designed around the main load directions while reducing unnecessary crimp.
The correct format depends on resin system, molding route, geometry, target fiber content, surface requirement and structural load path.
